Hello everyone! I created this blog for my free writing project following the release of three of my fantasy series under a CC-By license in may 2021: The Dashvara Trilogy, I, Mor-eldal, and The Pixies of Chaos. My first series, the Shaedra Cycle (2012-2015), was originally already published under an open-source license.
I’m currently preparing an English version for all those stories, starting from the Dashvara Trilogy, of which two books have already been published.
In this blog, I will talk about writing, my inspirations, and free art.
After nearly seven years of devoting myself entirely to writing, I’ve learned quite a bit about the field and have made many reflections on, among other things, how to create a story, a world, or characters that come to life. I had begun to seriously analyze these issues back in 2015, with a short Fantasy Man written with my family. Since then, I’ve kept trying new ideas, while staying pretty true to that little personal manual.
Writing is a real joy for me, and the same goes for reading. We read, we write, because we want to live new, unique, fun, edifying experiences that take us out of our reality and touch us emotionally.
Creating something original in a world where new creations are born every day is difficult. However, not everything that goes to our hearts needs to be original, and originality is often just a new way of combining existing ideas. I think that, if literature has evolved over the last few centuries to offer us the vast genre that fantasy has become today, it is because of all the attempts of past writers. We are inspired, we imitate, and sometimes a new idea awakens our senses even more and allows us to evolve further. Literature is like a tree that keeps growing: the branches multiply freely. This is also why I always keep in mind that the “rules” of language and the conventions of literature are meant to guide us, writers and readers, not to restrict us. We shouldn’t be afraid to go beyond them if our inspiration tells us to!
These are some thoughts for this first post. I’m sure others will talk about literary history much better than I can, so I’ll wisely avoid talking about it here. I am, however, thinking of posting more personal thoughts about my writing techniques, as well as announcements about this new free writing project. Next time, I will talk about my new series, the Farskyer Citi Saga, which I am writing directly in English.
See you soon!
